Distance Control Tip

Have you ever hit a shot with say a wedge on hole number 3 of the Tournament course, and then on the next hole, same yardage, come up way short?? Then get on number 10, wedge again and you adjust for the last time when it came up short, boom way past the pin! XO$#@!!

So many times we are faced with a situation when the green is either up hill or down hill versus a perfectly level hole. I would like to give you a simple way to help judge these shots.

Let’s go back to number 3. Lets say your about 110 yards from the green. You are about 5 to 10 yards above the actual level of the hole. When the green is below you, estimate how much and subtract that amount from the 110 yds., and make the necessary adjustment in club selection.

So, if we subtract yards when the hole is below us, we need to add yards when the hole is above us.

Think about number four on the same course. If you are down the hill in the low spot around 120-30 yards out you could add as much as 10 to 15 yards to the hole, depending on the hole location. Sometimes it can be subtle. Think about number 8, same course...uphill! If your on the forward tees, could be as much as 10 yards!

So make sure to add or subtract the extra yards from the sprinkler head yardage. This seems to be more present on the Tournament Course than on the Palmer or Dye. But again sometimes it can be subtle.

Good luck! I hope this helped answer the question about why you might hit the same club different yardages.

Let s Get Started

Greetings to each of you! As most of you know, Jeff and I had hoped to be teaching The 8 Traits of Champion Golfers (T8TOCG) beginning (1.14.01). However, as is often the case in life, we were asked to practice our flexibility. I will be going to San Antonio February 10-13 to be certified by Dr. Deborah Graham and Jon Stabler in their program.

Having used one of their assessment tools in graduate school and always looking to simplify, I believe the T8TOCG is a great addition to the comprehensive golf program Jeff Harrison and his staff offer at the The Learning Center. I am excited to get started with it and to work with each of you!

The purpose of T8TOCG is to provide a structure and increased awareness for the mental component of your game. We will be talking about your focus, abstract thinking (how you reason, problem-solve, learn, and adapt mentally), emotional stability, dominance (competitiveness and aggressiveness), tough-mindedness, confidence, self-sufficiency, and optimum arousal (your nervous system: heart rate, blood pressure, etc). All of these 8 traits come into play every time you play a game. My job is to help you learn to assess these traits for yourself and improve your golf game.

For those of you who don' t know me "that's most of you" I love meeting and working with people. I think of myself as a guide for each of my clients. My goal is to get to know each of you and to work with you toward reaching your goals and playing your best golf. The Learning Center offers a terrific, comprehensive package for that purpose. I love life and my promise to you is to guide you on your way to achieving success in your golf game and happiness in your life!
