Golf Tip

Distance Control Tip

Have you ever hit a shot with say a wedge on hole number 3 of the Tournament course, and then on the next hole, same yardage, come up way short?? Then get on number 10, wedge again and you adjust for the last time when it came up short, boom way past the pin! XO$#@!!

So many times we are faced with a situation when the green is either up hill or down hill versus a perfectly level hole. I would like to give you a simple way to help judge these shots.

Let’s go back to number 3. Lets say your about 110 yards from the green. You are about 5 to 10 yards above the actual level of the hole. When the green is below you, estimate how much and subtract that amount from the 110 yds., and make the necessary adjustment in club selection.

So, if we subtract yards when the hole is below us, we need to add yards when the hole is above us.

Think about number four on the same course. If you are down the hill in the low spot around 120-30 yards out you could add as much as 10 to 15 yards to the hole, depending on the hole location. Sometimes it can be subtle. Think about number 8, same course...uphill! If your on the forward tees, could be as much as 10 yards!

So make sure to add or subtract the extra yards from the sprinkler head yardage. This seems to be more present on the Tournament Course than on the Palmer or Dye. But again sometimes it can be subtle.

Good luck! I hope this helped answer the question about why you might hit the same club different yardages.

A New Season and New Things Happening Here

As we begin a new season, many of you are planning your trip back to the desert, just arriving or have been here all summer and are looking forward to the cooler weather. Welcome.

During the summer we tend to take this time to plan for the up and coming season. This summer was no different. This is always a fun time for me cause I like new things, but only if it helps!

Technology was the first thing to be upgraded. We purchased the newest version of our Teaching Program, V1 Coaching System. It provides us with faster and more diversified options while video taping swings and playing them back. I felt this was important for the students that are visual learners. (about 87% of us!)

Along with the software upgrade came the newest Video Camera. This allows me to capture better quality shots in low light and high speeds - important for all those 130mph swings out there!

This camera allows me now to send moving video of you to your email so I can send you additional info later, or give you a video golf lesson when you may be out of the area.

These changes were exciting for me cause I kinda like gadgets, especially when they improve results!

I hope to have completed by the time you receive this The Golf Learning Center Web Page! This will be your on-line source to tips, current schedule of events, Members Only Corner and our on-line newsletter. So please if you would like to get this free publication... E-mail me! Mhlearningcenter@netscape.net

We are also working on a members player forum. This will be held once a month beginning in January. Our goal is to have past and current touring professionals as well as guest speakers in such fields as health, fitness and the psychology of the game. This is very exciting, the thought of high level professionals in their respective fields spending time with you in a very intimate setting, allowing you to ask those hard questions! Dates and times will be made available well in advance, so don't miss these great opportunities!

Finally, structural changes. We have added sides to our teaching area. I felt this was necessary due to the sometimes cold conditions early in the mornings and late afternoons. It is also designed to block the wind.

The final improvement we're making is Your Golf Game! Please stop by and lets get started!
